For parents who cannot always breastfeed at every meal, they have to rely on bottle-feeding, which can prematurely wean the baby off the breast. Bittylab has created the revolutionary Bare® air-free feeding system that allows parents to bottle-feed their little one without disturbing the breastfeeding relationship. Utilizing innovative technology, the Bare® functions like a breast to reduce nipple confusion while extending the breastfeeding relationship.
What’s more, Bittylab will be at the upcoming New York Baby Show on May 20 and 21, at Pier 94.
The nation’s biggest show for expectant and new families, the New York Baby Show is a wonderful family-friendly mega-event featuring everything to do with maternity, baby, and toddler. We spoke with the founder and CEO of Bittylab, Priska Diaz, to learn more about the brand and what new parents can expect at the New York Baby Show.
For someone unfamiliar with Bittylab, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?
Bare® air-free feeding system is a healthier alternative to baby bottles. With several patented technologies, Bare® feeds the baby air-free milk, in an upright position, and lets the baby control the flow/pace of feeding. These three advancements led to breakthrough clinical findings: Bare® is clinically proven to eliminate acid reflux symptoms in 75% of babies in the first two weeks. Together with our Perfe-latch nipple, Bare® helps initiate, reinstate, and extend breastfeeding while supplementing. Bare® is currently for sale at walmart.com, buybuybaby.com, and bittylab.com.
Tell us about Bittylab’s background. When did Bittylab start and how has it evolved since then?
I’m a mother and big supporter of breastfeeding. I was set to exclusively breastfeed my first son, but my low milk supply condition forced me to introduce formula bottles. As a result, my baby began to reject my breast due to nipple confusion, and easy feeding from ordinary bottles. Every time I bottle-fed my baby, I turned him into a bag of gas resulting in endless sleepless nights for the whole family. I realized that the baby bottles weren’t working for my baby or me. That’s when Bare® air-free feeding system by Bittylab was born.
What are the most popular and newest products from Bittylab?
Bare air-free offers two lines of feeding system:
Our Perfe-latch® line, which is for moms that supplement breastfeeding, helps them initiate, reinstate, and extend the breastfeeding relationship, thereby turning the babies back to the breast and/or helping parents breastfeed for the first time.
Perfe-latch® supports and promotes breastfeeding: The short tip motivates the baby to create a deep, wide latch onto the areola part of the nipple. Once a seal is established and the baby initiates suction, the short nipple extends inside the baby’s mouth. Bare’s technology prevents easy feeding; the baby needs to create suction in order to feed. Between the deep, wide latch plus feeding upon suction only and flow-control technology, the baby makes a very similar exercise as with the breast, thus preventing nipple confusion and bottle preference.
Our Easy-latch® line is for babies who are already on the bottle. It offers the easy-latch nipple, which is more standard in shape and makes it easier for a bottle-fed baby to create a closed latch to further prevent air swallowing.
Both nipples feature Flow-Control® technology: different size orifices on its tip open and close to dispense different flow rates controlled by the baby’s sucking strength. Less suction equals slow flow; more, stronger suction equals fast flow.
What sets Bittylab apart in the baby marketplace?
The baby bottle industry hasn’t changed in nearly half a century. Proper feeding is a very important stage of infant development and Bare® air-free offers healthy benefits all the way. Numerous published studies show a direct correlation between the rapid decline of breastfeeding during the first three months and the rise of acid reflux in four-month old babies to an alarming 66% of the infant population, with the common originator being ordinary baby bottles. Parents reluctantly accept the fact that “all babies are gassy and fussy,” but our clinical studies showed otherwise.
The study focused on selecting 122 full term, and otherwise healthy babies that exhibited high and low GER symptoms and were placed in two separate groups accordingly. We asked the parents to only replace their baby bottle and use Bare® instead for two weeks and feed the baby in an upright position. They were also instructed to continue using the same contents (breast milk, formula, etc). Within the GER group, 75% of these babies no longer met clinical criteria for GER. We also saw an improvement in 49% of the babies within the non-GER group. This is really the biggest news in the infant feeding category!
What can parents expect fromBittylab at the New York Baby Show?
We will have a very interactive demonstration on how to properly assemble Bare®, how to feed the baby (with a baby prop), and how Bare® works when the baby creates the suction, which is simulated with a breast pump. We’ll also talk about our recent clinical studies and answer any questions the parents may have.
And we will have giveaways, games, and prizes for the early birds and throughout the show!
