For someone unfamiliar with healthy mama, how would you describe the core offerings of the business?
We provide pregnant and nursing moms health and wellness, convenience, and peace of mind–we support the miracle of pregnancy and nursing. We offer a complete line of solutions that address a woman’s common pregnancy and nursing ailments and concerns. Tell us about healthy mama’s background—how did the business get started and how has it grown?
Healthy mama started from my real life experience during my first pregnancy being confused and frustrated from all the conflicting information available. I also discovered that there was no prenatal category at the pharmacy so that we knew what was safe for me to take while pregnant–I couldn’t believe it. I wound up taking a product for constipation that I later learned was deemed not safe to take–while I don’t directly correlate the two, I did go into preterm labor and delivered my daughter, Mia, at 24 weeks weighing a mere 1.7 lbs. I became a mama on a mission to help other women avoid the same plight I experienced.
What do customers love about healthy mama and what should parents now about it?
[People should know] that they don’t have to worry whether its safe or not–we have vetted all of our products through our medical advisory board, American Pregnancy Association, OTIS, healthywomen.org to ensure we are providing the safest, most healthful products for her during such an amazing time. We ensure our products are dye-free, gluten-free, paraben-free, and artificial flavor- and sweetener-free.
What makes healthy mama unique and different from other similar products on the market?
We have a complete line of products that are all in one brand on one shelf–women don’t need to go on a scavenger hunt at the store any more. We have fought very hard to build a prenatal category to provide her convenience and peace of mind. Again, removing anything from our products that are not necessary like FD&C Dyes that are in many prenatal vitamins–if a woman takes that vitamin every day, why should she put those dyes in her body when they are banned in Europe?
What can parents except to see from healthy mama at the New York Baby Show and in the future in general?
We are looking to develop products that help women avoid any ailments and feel good–many of our current products provide her ways to alleviate an ailment–let’s nip it in the bud! Our Boost it Up!
