We spoke with a member of the Munchkin team, to learn more about the brand and what new parents can expect at the New York Baby Show.
For someone unfamiliar with Munchkin, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?
From stainless steel spill-proof sippy cups, to Arm & Hammer odor-control diaper pails, Munchkin has been creating smart, innovative products with both parents and babies in mind for over 25 years. To date, Munchkin has won more than 180 product awards and achieved 182 patents. They currently average more than 60 new innovative products launched annually! Munchkin is the number-one baby and toddler brand in the U.S., with more than 71 million Munchkin products sold in 2016 — that’s 18 Munchkin products for every baby born in the U.S. last year. Most recently they have contributed to the development of the first ever whale sanctuary with their cause marketing campaign, Project Orca, but they have also expanded from baby products to foods. With a mission to improve the future standard of feeding for infants in the U.S. Munchkin is launching the world’s first infant formula made with milk from 100% certified grass fed cows (these cows graze the pristine grasses of New Zealand 365 days a year).
What is the background of Munchkin? When did it start, and how has it evolved since then?
The inspiration to develop innovative infant and toddler baby products began after the birth of our CEO, Steven B. Dunn’s daughter in 1987. Dunn, a venture capitalist, was surprised by the lack of creative design in the infant and toddler category. Quite frankly, as Steve puts it, “I was getting tired of reading other people’s business plans. When I started looking at some of the products we were buying for our daughter, I saw the opportunity to be creative and bring some much-needed freshness and innovation to several categories.” Munchkin was founded in 1991 and has since grown into a global lifestyle brand with products sold in over 45 countries.
What are the most popular and/or newest products from Munchkin?
