We caught up with boober’s Founder Jada Shapiro about what to know about this top-tier resource for local parents.
What should expectant and new parents know about you and your business?
Boober is where expectant and new parents go to find expert, in-person #pregnancytopostpartum care providers. We started with same-day lactation support and have since helped over 1,500 families in the NYC and surrounding areas find expert lactation help. The simple, text-based platform quickly matches new parents to the type of care they need, where, when, and how parents want it — in their home or hospital, with the support of in-person providers. No stressing, no searching, no waiting, no vetting. Boober is a femtech start-up founded by Jada Shapiro. Shapiro is a longtime birth and postpartum doula, childbirth educator, certified lactation counselor, birth photographer, and mother.
What’s new (in the past year) with your business?
We are excited to announce that you can now find a postpartum doula on the boober platform! Boober can find tailored care for new parents looking for expert help as they transition to parenthood. Caring for babies and parents is what postpartum doulas do and their fast growing popularity is a testament to their incredible work. We also expanded to new territories and are helping parents now in Long Island and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut. Look for new types of care coming soon from Birth Doulas, to Pelvic Floor Therapists, to Transition to Parenthood Mental Health Therapists.
Which topics do you enjoy connecting with new and expectant parents about most?
Parents tend to assume breastfeeding will be easy because it is natural. While it is true for some, it is actually harder than they often think. We created the Breast Start visit to help parents start their breastfeeding journey on the right path in the first three days post birth, but education is key to help parents understand that they are not failing and that most issues can be resolved with expert help. Generally I find that we do not give enough time to new parents to recover post birth and part of our mission is to help new parents get the help they need and normalize the conversation about postpartum recovery with an open dialogue. You are not alone!
