For someone unfamiliar with Nourish Nursing, how would you describe the company’s mission and core offerings?
Nourish Nursing is a line of trendy breastfeeding tops and dresses inspired by my love of color and prints, and my experiences with attachment parenting and full-term breastfeeding. Each piece is designed to provide quick and easy pumping and breastfeeding access, even while baby-wearing. The fabrics are soft, stretchy, comfortable for both mother and baby, and easy to care for. Our clothes are designed to fit throughout the entire full-term breastfeeding relationship, and can be worn after your child has weaned with little to no trace of the garment’s original nursing function. Nourish is dedicated to normalizing breastfeeding and promoting body positivity. Our website, http://nourishnursing.com, features real mothers modeling our clothes and breastfeeding their children. Nourish is proudly made in the United States with the utmost attention to quality and detail, so each piece is an investment that can be worn while nursing multiple children and well beyond the time the nursing relationship is complete.
What is the background of Nourish Nursing? When did it start and how has it evolved since then?
After my first son was born, I briefly returned to work as a fashion designer and had trouble finding stylish clothes that allowed for quick and easy pumping breaks. Once I decided to become a stay-at-home mom, my life revolved about my sensitive baby who had to be close to me at all times and was breastfed on demand around the clock. Baby-wearing was a daily necessity, as was constantly wearing clothes that provided quick, easy, and unencumbered nursing access. As time passed, my body returned to its pre-pregnancy size, but my son’s need to nurse on demand remained. The nursing clothes that felt “forgiving” immediately after birth began to feel frumpy. My once fashionable, colorful wardrobe was replaced by ill-fitting, colorless nursing wear. I realized that my commitment to full-term breastfeeding and desire to have more children meant I would spend many years in nursing-friendly clothes. With new information about the benefits of breastfeeding being discovered daily, and the ongoing normalization of full-term breastfeeding through toddlerhood, I knew I wasn’t alone in my desire for updated nursing wear options. After having two more demanding babies, who contributed to my invaluable experience and inspiration, and putting in several years of work, Nourish Nursing was launched in January, 2016.
What are the most popular and/or newest services and products from Nourish Nursing?
Our first collection for Spring 2016 features two printed nursing tanks, which customers have been excited about. Our floral print tank features a beautiful lace running down the center front, which adds visual interest and also has a lengthening and slimming effect. Our second tank features a neon print on a black ponte de roma fabric, which is a little thicker and helps smooth the midsection. Our vegan leather trimmed tunic with antique gold snaps that provide nursing and pumping access has also been popular with our customers. It can be paired with jeans or leggings, dressed up or down, and provides an edgy option for nursing moms. Our little black nursing dress comes with a gorgeous ivory lace overlay, and can be dressed up for a more formal occasion, such as a wedding, or worn with or without the overlay for a more casual daytime look. We also feature a gorgeous striped and color blocked maxi dress that has customers excited for warmer summer days.
What sets Nourish Nursing apart from other maternity and nursing clothing companies?
While most nursing wear is designed to be worn during pregnancy and in the immediate postpartum period, Nourish is designed to fit and flatter throughout the entire breastfeeding relationship, and can also be worn after your child has weaned with little to no trace of the garments’ original function. Nourish is equally dedicated to fashion and function, and features colors, prints, and silhouettes that are currently lacking in the nursing wear market. Nothing looks like “typical” nursing wear – there are no weird flaps or strange layers that you wouldn’t find on regular tops or dresses. Every piece is designed for quick and easy breastfeeding and pumping access, even while baby-wearing. The fabrics are stretchy, soft, and comfortable for both mother and child, and easy to care for. Most importantly, Nourish Nursing was created by a fashion designer who is also the mother of three children and has over five years (and counting!) of breastfeeding experience. I have nursed fussy, clingy babies and impatient, active toddlers in almost every situation imaginable, and have used my experiences to create easy, functional, and fashionable pieces mothers will look forward to wearing.
